Yes, a technician can fix many dents in your employer’s parking lot while you stay at your desk. Paintless dent repair (PDR) needs no shop bay, just safe access to the panel, decent lighting and a parking space. We bring the tools to you in Contra Costa County and nearby areas. This guide covers which damage qualifies, what to prepare, what it costs and what paperwork to expect.
TL;DR
- Workplace repair suits cosmetic dents where the paint is intact. Cracked paint, structural damage or severe creases may need collision repair instead.
- Our published ranges: paintless dent repair $150–$500, minor dent repair $100–$500, large dent repair $150–$1,500. Final price comes from a written, job-specific estimate.
- Send photos, your vehicle’s year, make and model, and the dent’s location and size. Mention aluminum panels or past collision work.
- Get the scope and price in writing before work starts, and never accept a verbal quote.
- Check with your property manager first so we can park and work safely.

What mobile dent repair at work actually means
A mobile repair is the same craft you would get in a shop, moved to your location. In PDR, the technician reshapes the panel from behind instead of replacing and repainting it. California law describes the work as removing a dent, ding or crease without affecting the existing paint, and it excludes panel replacement, sanding, bonding or painting.
That is why it travels well. There is no paint booth, no days without your car, and no ride share to the office. You park as usual, hand over the keys, and go back to your meetings. Our mobile dent repair service is built around that routine.
If you want the technique explained in more depth, our guide to what paintless dent repair is and its benefits covers it.
Which damage is a good fit for a parking-lot repair
The deciding question is repairability, not convenience. A good mobile technician will tell you when a dent cannot be fixed well in a parking lot, and will decline a PDR-only repair if the panel, paint or structure cannot be restored properly.
| Damage | Usually suited to workplace PDR? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Door dings and small round dents | Yes | Paint intact, panel reachable from behind |
| Shallow creases | Often | Depends on how stretched the metal is |
| Hail dents | Often | Aluminum panels need different methods, see our hail dent repair paths |
| Dents with cracked or chipped paint | Usually not | Paint repair is part of the fix |
| Scuffed or cracked plastic bumpers | Not PDR | Handled as plastic bumper repair |
| Structural or collision damage | No | Needs measurement and body work |
The size of a dent says less than you would expect. Training curricula treat steel and aluminum repairs, access, lighting, glue pulling and induction heating as separate technical considerations, so a quick inspection of material, access and paint matters more than the dent’s apparent size. How to book a workplace repair, step by step
- Send photos and details. Include clear shots in daylight from a few angles, plus year, make and model, dent location, rough dimensions, any paint damage, whether the panel is aluminum, and any collision history. You can use our free dent quote form.
- Review the assessment and estimate. Photos pre-screen the job. The final scope and price should be confirmed in a written estimate.
- Clear the location. Ask your property manager or facilities team for permission. We need legal parking, room to work around the vehicle and safe separation from pedestrians.
- Technician inspects on arrival. Access, material and paint condition are checked before any work begins.
- Repair or recommendation. The technician performs PDR, or tells you that bumper or body repair is the right path.
- Walk the panel and get your invoice. Review the finished panel in good light before you sign off.
We do not promise a universal repair time. It varies with access, dent depth, material, paint condition and whether hidden damage turns up. Ask for an honest window for your specific dent.
What it costs
Our published ranges are one-off prices per repair job:
- Paintless dent repair: $150–$500
- Minor dent repair: $100–$500
- Large dent repair: $150–$1,500
Mobile, collision, bumper, specialty, fleet, lease-return and insurance-assistance work is quoted per job, because the scope varies too much for a single number. Our guide to car dent crease repair explains why creases price differently from simple dings.
Protect yourself: paperwork for a repair at work
A mobile appointment is not a reason to accept a vague scope. The California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) says repair transactions need documentation and authorization: the estimate must identify the specific job and the estimated parts and labor. Its consumer guidance on maintenance and repairs also points you to licensed shops and the license lookup, which can be filtered for mobile repair.
Before a technician touches your car at work:
- Ask for an itemized written estimate.
- Verify the business through BAR’s license lookup.
- Keep the signed authorization and the final invoice.
- Get any change in scope approved by you before it is done.
This is California guidance. If your workplace is in another state, check that state’s rules.
If insurance is paying
For a California claim, you can choose the auto body shop and get an independent estimate while the claim is open. The insurer generally sends an adjuster or appraiser, and extra damage found during repair may need insurer approval, according to the Department of Insurance accident guide. Starting work at once is not always the fastest route, because unapproved extra work can cause a coverage dispute.
You are the repair customer, not the insurer. The Auto Repair Consumer Bill of Rights says you may select the shop for covered damage. BAR also notes that complaint investigations often find shops failing to get the owner’s authorization for repairs or supplements. So treat an insurer’s estimate as a starting point, ask for it itemized, and approve the final scope yourself. We offer insurance claim assistance through our specialty services, but we never promise payment before reviewing your written policy.
Vehicle service contracts are a separate matter. The California Department of Insurance notes some may include paintless dent repair, so read the covered services and exclusions in yours.
Our perspective: why we work where you work
We built Dent Erasers around a simple observation: most people do not have a free day to sit in a body shop for a ding. With 27+ years in the trade, we have learned that the car owner’s time is the real cost. Fixing a panel in your lot, with your car never leaving your sight, removes that cost.
We also believe a mobile technician earns trust by saying no. If the paint is cracked, the metal is stretched too far or the damage is structural, we will say so and point you to the right repair, which may be our auto body and collision service. Preserving your factory finish is the goal whenever it is possible. A quick, honest inspection beats a confident guess every time.

Fleets, leases and luxury vehicles
Workplace visits work well for more than one car. Employers can arrange fleet dent repair for several vehicles in one visit. Lease-return customers can have dings addressed before an inspection. Owners of luxury, classic and vintage cars, and motorcycles, can ask about our specialty work. Our overview of PDR for high-end vehicles shows what to expect.

FAQ
Can you really repair a dent in my office parking lot?
In most cases, yes, if the paint is intact and the panel can be reached. We need legal parking, working clearance and your property manager’s permission. If the damage is not suited to PDR, we will tell you after inspection.
How much does a workplace dent repair cost?
Our published ranges are $150–$500 for paintless dent repair, $100–$500 for minor dents and $150–$1,500 for large dents. Mobile, bumper and collision jobs get a job-specific quote. Your written estimate states the final scope and price.
What should I send to get a quote?
Send clear photos, your vehicle’s year, make and model, the dent’s location and approximate size, and any paint damage. Tell us if the panel is aluminum or the car has collision history. Photos pre-screen the job, and we confirm everything in writing.
Will my insurance cover a mobile repair?
That depends on your policy. In California you may choose your repair shop, and extra damage found mid-repair may need insurer approval. We review your written policy before saying anything about coverage.
